“NUCLEAR ENERGY AND CYBER SECURITY”

 

ABSTRACT:                                                      

Cyber security is a complex and ever-changing topic. As with other critical infrastructure, nuclear energy information and control systems need to be secured from cyber intrusion. This talk is going to focus on the need for cyber security in the nuclear industry and the research topical areas that should be undertaken to improve digital system security in this domain.

BIOGRAPHY:

F. Mitch McCrory is the co-national lab lead for the DOE, Office of Nuclear Energy, cyber program. He currently manages the Risk and Reliability Analysis Department in Sandia National Laboratories’ Energy, Earth, and Complex Systems Center.  Mitch came to lead this department four years ago following seven years managing a Sandia department focused on information assurance sciences and assessments.  His customer responsibilities have included multiple military, government (DOE-NE, NRC & other), and industry sectors.  Mitch has over 39 years of experience managing or supporting high reliability and/or high consequence projects including projects related to space sensors, nuclear reactors, and military systems and served 8+ years in the nuclear Navy.  Mitch received his BSEE from the University of New Mexico in 1996.
